Milwaukee Road rebuilt 54 of their GP9’s with EMD 645 Engines, chop noses and air filters.
The resulting locomotive produced 2000 horsepower without a turbo charger.
Milwaukee Road went through several iterations of the rebuild program from 1969 to 1973.
- Phase 1: (999-982) Horst Flared Air Filters, 36″ Fans, 2 Exhaust Stacks, Number Boards in Short Nose
- Phase 2a: (981-956*) Horst Flared Air Filters, 36″ Fans, 2/4 Exhaust Stacks, Number Boards above Cab
- Phase 2b: (981-956*) Custom Built Air Filter, 36″ Fans, 2/4 Exhaust Stacks, Number Boards above Cab
- Phase 3: (955-946) Horst Flared Air Filters, 48″ Fans, 4 Exhaust Stacks, Number Boards above Cab
This model kit will give the modeler a great starting point for rebuilds during the middle phase of the program.
CMR Products is releasing an N Scale Shell Kit that will include a Chop Nose GP9 Non-Dynamic, Horst Air Filter Part and additional EMD Exhaust Stacks. This kit will allow the modeler to assemble a Milwaukee Road GP20m Locomotive.
This Milwaukee Road GP20m shell would be compatible with MILW Numbers 956-963, 972-974, 976, 977, 979-981 (Phase 2A).
At this time, we are no longer manufacturing new resin casts of this shell. We are transitioning our Resin casting operation to 3d designed Masters and printed shells.
You can find our New offerings in N Scale Here, along with any remaining new old stock.
